Can anyone explain, or better yet show with pictures, how to chain a log to a simple 2-piece wooden go devil? When I have tried it I have run the chain around the log and under the nose of the devil to the whiffle tree. The upward lift ends up rolling the whole rig so that the G.D. is riding on top of the log. Not very effective.

    Thanks,

Mark, it sounds right, but maybe the GD is not wide enough. It isn’t supposed to be able to roll over. That is one of the main functions of the devise.

    Carl,
Thanks. I wondered about the width. The one I had a while back (and quit on) was 2 pieces about 3-4 ‘ long, joined at the front (of course) and spread about 30″ wide at the back. How do those dimensions compare to what anyone has used?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Here is a picture of one that works pretty good for us. Do you have trouble with it rolling over, or do you pull the GD out from under it? Sounds like either not wide enough or not long enough.

every one we ever made was like a short stoneboat. the chain passed around the log or tree and through the nose of your devil to your evener. you end up pulling the wood on a short hitch picking up or lifting the wood as much as you can, just like you were twitching it. the go devil just goes along for the ride on its own keeping your wood free of dirt, mud, roots and stumps. are you making some sharp turns, mark?
