ParticipantHello friends!
Caitlin Jenness, of NOFA-VT has contacted DAPNet looking for a farm to host a NOFA summer event THIS SUMMER. If any of you would like to be involved with this, have a farm or know someone with a farm that could facilitate this type of event, please contact her. Her contact info is at the bottom of her email. I quote:
“I’m early in the planning phases of the Summer Workshop Series right now- so we are open to any/all ideas. Basically, I’m hoping to have at least one workshop be focused on draft power on organic farms (I myself have a pair of steers we log with, so it may just be my personal bias, but I think draft animal power is an important component to include in our workshop series and there is a lot of interest from beginning farmers on the topic).
Right now, I’m looking for a farm (ideally organic) that utilizes draft animal power that would be interested in hosting a 3 hour-ish workshop on their farm- do a tour, show some practical applications for draft animals and tools/equipment- I think it best to gear the presentation to beginning/new farmers. If there are farmers that utilize animal power for vegetable production, I think that would be especially interesting, but it can be on anything, really. It would be great to co-organize this with DAPNet – the topic/nature of the workshop would be up to the farmer hosting. I could also do some digging to try to find co-hosts for the workshop (maybe someone from UVM extension could come to talk about nutrition or some other related topic?)
We do all the marketing/mailings for the events, and have some compensation $ for the hosts (though it’s not much- typically in the $50 range). The workshops run from early July to the end of September, so any time in that frame would work.
I had originally contacted Lisa to see if she had any ideas for farmers who would be a good fit for such an event- if you wanted to put it out to the online forum that would be great. You could give anyone interested my contact info: caitlinjenness@nofavt.org or 434-4122 x 28″
