Eli
ParticipantI have a 22 year old Morgan that is broke to drive, I have only driven her single but she has been driven double when she was broke almost 20 years ago. I was thinking of hooking her with scarlet who is very green and in training she has a level head and a good woa. My problem is Gypsy (the Morgan) is 13 hands and scarlet ic 15+ gypsy is a little machine she has no quit in her scarlet is kinda of lazy. I have never hitched a new team together before and would appreciate any input I don’t want to hurt any body. Me or the horses. Also I have been told it is better to do this in the snow and now we have snow. Thanks Eli

ParticipantDidn’t team them up but I did drive scarlet in the two wheeled cart with the skis on. She did good but likes to run then stop and not go like hell. I ground drove her pulled a sled and some chaines before I hitched her to the cart. Eli

KeymasterHi Eli, You might check out the thread “wanted – one horse mower” as there is some discussion of putting unmatched animals together. I am a big proponent of it as to me it means using what we have. Regardless of whether they match or not; figuring out when they / you are ready is the key.
