ParticipantThere is a sulky disc at an auction just north of Lowville, N.Y. this Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday. I think that is suppose to sell this weekend. Look up http://www.tedsimmonsauctionservice.com. Looks in very good condition.

ParticipantGood one, thank you, wish there were more like that. Both of my boys grew up with horses. In 4-H they did everything from halter to barrel racing to driving. Now at 28 years old the younger one has virtually nothing to do with them. At 30 years old the older one has four drafts and four riding horses….Go figure….

ParticipantEverything that everyone else said but also make sure that you use a neckyoke.

ParticipantJust my humble opinion but I don’t think that you would want anything smaller than a good stout team of Haflingers. Those Maple logs are heavy. Like I said,JMHO.

ParticipantJust kinda interesting. My son has a team that looks just like then, even to which side of the pole. He also has a Big 4 mower. LOL Is the off side horse the mare, his are both mares.

ParticipantDB’s are a good spreader from what I heard from a friend. You might have to watch that the levers don’t hit you in the back. You might have to modify the levers or move your seat to one side.

ParticipantJust a thought on the laying back, have you ever tried switching sides? I remember that a friend did that and it cured the laying back. Might even help on the chewing. JMHO

ParticipantThat’s about 60 or 70 miles away. I don’t get up that direction very often.

ParticipantI wonder if that’s the same Levi Shetler that makes harnesses. I know where he lives but don’t know the address. He lives right up there in the Heuvelton-Depyster area. Nice guy, does good work and very inexpensive.

ParticipantI live in the north country of New York and it gets really cold here. If I told you that I had 55* below on three different occasions over the years you would call me a liar, so I won’t tell you. I had -27* last night and -29* the night before. I have lived here for almost 35 years and my horses are outside 24/7/365. The pasture is mostly woods and I don’t have a run-in shed, and never use blankets. One of my sons ponies got a cold once but that was in the middle of the summer, he will be 29 in a few months ( both my son and the pony ) ,so I guess it didn’t hurt him. Horses are not fat but in good shape. That’s just my observation, take it for what it’s worth.
