Evan,
This mower is the next town over from me. It would need a set of shafts but is designed to be a single horse mower. It is very similar to mine with a 4 foot mower.

I would sell my mower for $600.00, it is complete and ready to mow, not sure how much you have to spend.
Hope all is well,
ED
Hi Ed, Just wondering if you’ve sold your one horse mower yet? Thanks.

ParticipantLast Memorial day hubby and I hooked the mare to a VERY light wagon, and headed off to the local produce stand for strawberries. We were feeling great, flag flying, mare trotting with ears up. A passing motorist rolled down his window and screamed “Animal Cruelty!” It upset me so much, and got me to thinking that we really need to push our own education in the public view, before we are cornered to only work behind fences, away from public scorn. Any chance I get, I share the draft horse experience with others. We can’t let them get ahead of us!

Thank you!!!cherprit
ParticipantThat sounds like a good idea. I would like to take it to my neighbors down the street without trailering it over. I guess there is no safe way to have the horse take it over.
The mower – I got a #7 from a friend, it had been refurbished 5 years ago – gears are gorgeous! Just need a few parts for it – the spring and a few bolts. Everything’s in good shape on it. Thank you for asking!December 8, 2008 at 5:13 pm in reply to: 4 or 5 year olds with attitude – anyone else experience this? #48353cherprit
ParticipantThanks so much for all the reminders. She does need a job, and I need to make more of a commitment to her. Been working her on pulling arena drags, long wagon drives. The attitude is improving. I wanted the lazy way out, take a pill and fix it. But I do know darn well that it’s just hard work. No more excuses for me, and no more whining. I do appreciate and learn from everything I read here.

ParticipantWhere? California, of course.

ParticipantThanks for the replies.

ParticipantI took my #7 to the 82 year young teamster last weekend. He showed me two parts missing, a spring and the stay rod. Other than that it’s in great shape. When I asked him about cutting it down into a one horse, he looked at me like I had just grown two heads…………

ParticipantThanks for the replies. I haven’t tried her on the mower yet – would I just make up a set of shafts for it? I’ve only had it a week, and it does need a few small parts – off to get those on Saturday. It’s a 5′ blade.

ParticipantI did read about someone on the Rural Heritage site that cut down the blade to 4 feet. My mare isn’t quite that big. I’m taking my #7 to an old teamster on Saturday to see what he thinks. I might just have to wait until i get a teammate for my mare.

ParticipantI’m dying for a one horse mower – haven’t seen one on the west coast. I’m tempted to buy one and try to get it on a horse load coming out here…the shipping would be outrageous.

ParticipantHi,
I can highly recommend Duett saddles. I found mine on ebay – really nice dressage saddle. I also found a Simco western with a 10 inch gullet. Also, Midwestern Leather in Beckworth California makes wonderful western draft saddles. My husband is a big man, and he has a really nice draft saddle from them. I can get you their phone number if you like – really nice Amish family. Also build harness and sell Pioneer stuff.

ParticipantThought I’d explain my fire comment in the previous post. We couldn’t breathe here yesterday from the smoke blowing over from 3 fires. So dark it looked like the end of the world. Northern California

ParticipantA gentleman here advised me not to get any of those because the gears are not enclosed like a MD#7 or #9. Do you agree? Haven’t seen the machines for sale yet, the gentleman said they’re in running condition.
I have two clydes, that don’t get enough work, I’m trying to rectify that. My mare has a GREAT work ethic, and is more of the old fashioned chunk type. The gelding just goes along with whatever she does. We have lots of empty fields around here that are just fires waiting to happen. Unfortunately Ag has mostly moved out of this area – I’m hoping to follow soon. In any case, there are lots of city folk that need these empty fields mowed down. All flat. I have a few people that I could drive to for lessons with the mower, so I wouldn’t be out there for a while.
