I will spray it with motor oil after this weekends hay ride. My father had us kids paint the bale wagons with waste oil every fall we hade them forever. I have a bunch of partial jugs of oil I will spray it and keep it inside as much as I can. Thanks Eli

Donn glad you are ok. I’ve been lucky so far lost a line once but they stoped after about ten feet but they weren’t spooked I just noticed it was unhooked. I always read about mishaps and run aways try to avoid having my own stories. Thanks. Eli

Tomorrow I will start to spread I figure I have at least 20 loads. Hope to haul at least 5 but it is over a mile round trip. Should give my little team a workout. I put some nitrogen on it this spring but hope to cover it with manure and never buy comerical fertilizer again. Eli.

I Also have a central boiler for 13 years I heated all my hot water, house milk house, milking parlor, and shop. I have recently installed a geothermal unit in my house and no longer milk cows so the boiler only heats the shop and garage. I have to admit It is nice only burning 5 cord of wood a season. My boiler served me well but if I wasent heating multiple buildings I would opt for the wood stove. I miss warming my bones by the fire. Eli.

I do service and refrigeration work on daries in eastern Wisconsin and the Up. I can’t believe what some people pay me to do. I always fixed everything I could myself. People have changed, some don’t even look they just pick up the phone.
I hope to cut some second crop with my horses but I have never done it before. My goal is to cut a little 2 acre field that is a little thin and should mow easy. I wanted to rake with the horses Sunday but was in a hurry so I took the tractor, then blew a hydraulic hose. Should have used the horses.
I built a 10 bale grapple for the front of my skid steer but it has been so wet I get stuck and didn’t get a chance to use it much.

Donn it was more of a sarcasm thing I worked just as hard both nights one night made 1 acre and over 100 the next. I do refrigeration work an dairy farms so when the weather gets hot I get busy. 5 days a week plus on call nights and week ends. Makes it hard to make hay. I was a dairy farmer for 20 years and making hay was one of my favorite things to do. I am working toward cutting second crop with my horses but time will tell. Eli

One night after work I worked untill dark to rake bale and pickup 62 small bales off of about an acre. The next I helped a neighbor pick up large square bailes on a little over 100 acres. Kind of makes me wonder about how I make hay. Eli

My father was a mechanic and worked on balers all the time. Tight bales sharp knives and don’t run the baler slow. Good luck. Eli

Donn I don’t use a D ring harness but I like the concept. I have a mare that is broke but kind of uncooperative at first once she settles down she is ok she likes to back up. Part of the problem is i don’t use her because she is difficult. I think she figured out she can get the best of me. Eli

According to my daughters calculations we have enough hay for 120 days now I think she used 30 lbs a horse a day we have 8 but one is a baby. We should have enough pasture until late fall if the weather had cooperated we would have 26 more round bales but what do you do. Eli
