ParticipantEli,
If I can get the time, I like to spread compost right after I put up a hay field I have noticed good yield results. Sometimes its hard to do as we try to catch up on the things we put off while we were haying. Good luck and have fun.

ParticipantDonn, When we build a new house on the farm I hope to build in those types of efficiencies. We currently live in a 120+ year old farm house that will have to last us a few more years.

ParticipantWe just got home. Ended up hauling the Young Living Percheron Hitch down so had to stay an extra night, but we got paid to go :-). Had a wonderful time, now I know I really want an I&J set up WOW! My wife would like a team of mini Donkeys…..yikes.

ParticipantWe use a grapple in the barn to get it off, I will try and get a video of that sometime. Its a big wagon, that’s why we have three head on it. I make the mistake of double windrowing this field, had to stop a couple time on each row so I could keep up, won’t do that again.

ParticipantI am in western WI and it will be a few weeks before we start first crop. I normally cut with a 6′ sickle and have never tedded, but I would like to. I have an old IH tedder but I need to beef up the frame too much fles and the chain falls off. This year I hope to mow with a 9′ bar and the teamster 2000, but I am having a hard time finding a 9′ sickle mower around here, might need to road trip to ND, SD, or NE. Heavy Thunder storms are on the radar around here through tomorrow. We are planing to go to HP days so I do not want to be haying then. Good luck to you all

ParticipantAnyone know of anything that is not toxic to animals that would be a good alternative?

ParticipantYep, the chains run a PTO. When I get this thing going I will have more pictures and I hope to have some video as well.

ParticipantHydro pics. This is a larger pump than was on the this cart originally. The original pump had gone bad and this one came, unmounted, with the cart. It will not fit where the original was so I mounted it to the deck.

ParticipantCompaction is also a problem because we plant so many annuals and not enough perennials which send down deep roots to help brake up some compaction.
