ParticipantDon, I like the idea of the sliding tongue, could i just pull it with the forecart as well? I attached a couple of pics of the wagon gear all sanded and repainted. I hope to have the new deck on it by the weekend.

ParticipantOrdered the materials from my neighbor, he will be cutting the trees and sawing it for me next week,
How long do you all make your wagons? This one is capable of different lengths and i am trying to s=decide if 14′ or 16′ would be better.

ParticipantGlad you had some weather to bale Erika, still wet forecast for the end of the week will prohibit us from getting going. Talk of possible frost tonight, I hope they are wrong.

ParticipantThanks for the replies, hemlock has been used here extensively for sheds and other projects and was all purchased locally or from the property. I think i will stick with that as it has worked well for us in the past.

ParticipantThe weather for the next three days looks promising, but Friday is questionable. I guess it will give me a chance to work on other projects.
Mitch, you might be a tad farther North than us but we are surely at a higher elevation. About 1,500 feet here at the farm. I hope to make it up some time and visit you farm.

ParticipantI took a walk in the front field and it is nice and dry on the high spot but wet around the edges. We will have to wait until better forecasts for mowing I guess. Still anxious to get going though.
Surprised you don’t have snow on the ground still Mitch 🙂

ParticipantI read an interesting article about mowing crops the other day, it basically said a 3-4 inch clip was ideal because any longer of a stem would leave lower blades that would be old growth and not as productive converting sun to energy. It stated that the crop would recover faster from a shorter clip as the energy produced by the stem would develop the regrowth at a faster rate.
I have no experience really either way,I just thought it made sense and was interesting.

ParticipantI do not know anyone in our area that does not use a tedder of some sort.

ParticipantI noticed my Kuhn tedder has adjustable wheel positions, is that what you are talking about?
It is a 4 rotor 12 tedder and there are 4 indipendant wheel adjusters.

ParticipantThanks George, good info.
I installed all new teeth on my JD 594 roller bar rake last weekend and ended up making my own strippers that were missing. I used 3/4 inch wide x 1/4 inch thick flat bar and used an old stripper as a template to bend the new ones.
My mower and tedder are good to go so all we need is good weather and we will get after it.

ParticipantJust watched the weather at noon. Looks ideal through Sunday but now they say showers possible early Sunday, I guess I will have to wait.
George, when you get the hay down, have you ever raked it away from the edge of the field before tedding to get better exposure to the sun where there is heavy shade?

ParticipantBrad,
Sounds like a nice arrangement. I have to admit, I was hesitant to purchase a tractor a few years ago but found that it was invaluable for loading manure and moving logs at our landing. I absolutely prefer the horse power and the tranquility of man and beast however, I have yet to figure out how to load the manure spreader with the horse 🙂
Glad to hear you are enjoying your work.

ParticipantSad news today, I just learned that Nancy Walker suffered a heart attack last weekend and is recovering slowly at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital. After talking with Jay, it appears she may be coming home on Saturday to finish her recovery so we will be canceling the wood bee for this year so as not to create any undue disturbance at their home.
Thanks to all who were going to attend.
