I just printed the registration form to mail in but had an idea. I think if you, me or somebody submitted a agenda to the Massachusetts Forester License Board, licensed foresters could get continuing Ed. credits for it. I need 20 hours a year to maintain my license. If this were to happen we could also have notification of the workshop put out on the UMass extension service email list to all the licensed foresters in Massachusetts (many of whom are from abutting states). Having a audience of professional land managers could be a good thing for our craft.
~TomI think this is a great idea as well. We should get the registration cover sheet reformatted to reflect our goals for the workshop as Carl suggested. Thanks for the thoughts.

ParticipantCarl,
Perhaps we should host a brief conference call so those involved can hash out the objectives the way you would like them presented. It would not have to be very long but I think it would be useful to get this done now so as to add it to the upcoming newsletter. Oct 1 is the deadline for content.
Let me know what you think,

ParticipantI think you will be fine without it Ellen, if you stick to what you want to do in terms of spreading manure and dragging a chain harrow. Good luck. Brakes are an option I think is important. Hydraulic brakes are great but the band brakes I have on mine work well too.

ParticipantEvan,
This mower is the next town over from me. It would need a set of shafts but is designed to be a single horse mower. It is very similar to mine with a 4 foot mower.

I would sell my mower for $600.00, it is complete and ready to mow, not sure how much you have to spend.
Hope all is well,
ED

ParticipantWe borrow a Featherman plucker from our neighbor who no longer processes birds. We give her chickens in trade for using the plucker. It works out well for both of us. We bought the economy model scalder and it works great. I think it was around $200.00 delivered to our door. We enjoy the chickens and this year have added turkey’s to the mix. They will be ready just before Thanksgiving. We are selling a few turkeys to offset the cost of raising ours and hope to break even.

ParticipantBilly,
We do between 50 and 60 birds at a time and use a couple of 30 gal. water tubs. They are easy to dump out so when you have to add fresh water they are not a burden to move. One is called the pink tank and that is the one the birds go into immediately after evisceration. Then after a few minutes it goes into the final chill tank and then the drain rack prior to the shrink bags. We use old syrup and plastic milk jugs to freeze water in and start collecting them a few weeks before butchering time.
