I totally spaced this meeting. Got home late from a Red Cross Blood Drive and went straight to the barn for chores. I apologize for my absence. I should have been paying more attention.

    Thanks Jean,

One clarification, Reeva inquired about the finances for the annual gathering from a financial perspective for grants.

Ed wants us to think about the venue and hosting for future gatherings.

    Justin,

Finding a one horse mower might take a little time but they are available. Look on your local Craigslist and farm magazines, publications. One will eventually pop up.
This mower is a good pull for a large single draft. It takes some time to get them started and usd to the noise. Search; Single Horse mowers on this forum for some more good information on this.

    Good luck,

    Ed

    Mitch,

I hitched the horse again yesterday and clipped a paddock about a 1/4 acre in size. The mower worked great. When I push the foot pedal to lift the bar is it supposed to latch in that half way position? I may need some adjustment there. And when I do get it to latch in the halfway position it sometimes falls to the ground without warning.

We picked up 100 bales yesterday and another 280 today. Gotta make hay while the sun shines 🙂

    Tim,

I have not received the manual I ordered for this mower yet. I used 10 weight oil for the oil ports with flip up covers. I put oil in every 30 minutes or so. That may be more than necessary but i want to make sure I get it well oiled. There is a grease cup on the end of the pitman stick on the crank end. I filled this with grease gun grease and screwed the copper cap on. Will have to see how that works.

My mower is in great shape. Been parked in a barn for decades. But completely functional. What a joy to work with today. From what I understand, it might be hard to find guards for these mowers, but time will tell.

    Good luck with your mower,

    Ed

I agree as well that voting should be after the committee reports. The reports might inspire someone to volunteer to be nominated from the floor 🙂

I am looking for knives and other bar parts for this single horse mower. Where are the rest of you getting your parts? What do I need to supply for part numbers to the vendors.

Great looking setup. Wish we were ready for that kind of operation. How do you unload back at the barn?

    Erika,

I am glad you have crops to cultivate, mine are under water 🙁

Sounds like a nice find. I have seen on you tube a McCormick Deering converted to a one horse set up with an offset pole. Neat looking arrangement.

Program and Events Committee Report for Board of Directors

    Review of Spring Wood Bee
Ed-felt somewhat disorganized both managing and participating even though it was a low key event.
Jen agreed and thought it was a weak point, and suggested at each event there should be a meeting at the beginning, before people hook horses or anything to let them know the plan-what’s going on-orientation.
It might be good to have a “commentator” in addition to the organizer/participant/demonstrator who can tell who people are and what is going on. All felt the event was a great success and fulfilled the intended mission.

    Shelburne Farm GMDHA
Jen-their summer meeting isn’t till June, she will try to get more info
Chuck Cox-Pioneer homesteader demo-trying to get one to show/use for the Annual Meeting

    Annual Meeting
A conference call was organized and a schedule for the details/agenda have been made. There is a museum for horse equipment close to Perry Farm–organize tours (2?). Logging and haying demos. There is no plowed area currently but could perhaps do some plowing. Jen-Possibly extend financial aid to board members coming long distance to annual meeting? We are planning to cover our costs for the event but would like to promote shirt and hat sales and sponsorship or donations. We will also have raffle items.

Discussion about BOD retreat (in conjunction with annual meeting)
    NEAPFD 2013 Sept. 13-15

Need to start concentrating on this event.
Jen-could be available in July/August for planning. Does not want to manage it herself, All thought a combined effort is necessary.
    Tim-possible to pay event coordinator/administrator?
    What about grant?
Need realistic expectations/covering costs is goal
Make a list of what needs to be done and create timeline of to do list, Jen-Carl and Lisa have notes
Committee would like to get together the day after Shelburne Falls Field Day to work on planning or details.?

    Sponsorships
Ed-need to continue to work on generating interest/building relationships with people we work with, buy from, etc. to get business members, advertisers, etc. It’s a process.
Ed-had to redo budget for programs and events and forward to Reeva.

    Lincoln Salvage Project
Ed and Jen met with the US Forest Service. FS approved budget presented to them except the filming component. Need a sponsor for filming project (permit?) process—educational component.
Kevin-suggest possible to team up with a college for filming-mentioned Marlboro College
Jen-NH Chronicle possible coordinate on program?

    NOFA VT Summer Workshop Series
Doe’s Leap Farm will be hosting an introduction to draft animal power at thier farm in VT. on Tuesday September 4th. 2pm to 4pm. Rain date of September 11th. We will have a presence there and more info will follow as it is available.

    Logo
Approved. Banner, sponsorship info. Brochure needs tweaking-Erica and Jen will work on.
Jen-suggests we make T-shirts for annual gathering-limited edition, change annually. Very little stock left of existing shirts-out of average sizes.
Have a poster contest for NEAPFD and print winner on shirts too?
Part of annual gathering conversation, Get some prices from local suppliers
Tim-Is there a logo for the annual gathering? Need to post official logo. Jen will send to Tim
