That is a huge horse. Having trouble imagining harnessing a critter that big.:D

The disc had a dolly wheel on it originally but was missing when I pulled it from the bushes or should I say Poisen Ivy , but that is a story for another time.

I purchased a 12” caster wheel and welded it to an axle, then welded together a front hitch that would allow me to change the angle of draft.

The disc is very maneuverable with the front wheel arrangement. I can easily pull with a single or the team hitch and not have to mess with a pole.

Finished the disc today. Mounted the seat, installed the new grease fittings in the hubs and mounted the disc in the new bushings.

Also welded up the dolley wheel arangement and greased the axle assembly.
Going to try it out this weekend.

Added some more pics to the web album too.

His feet were trimmed yesterday and things look real good. Now he just needs to recover from the vet visit and his shots.

    Andy,

I am working on an old disc currently and needed to make a new front dolley wheel very similare to yours. Still need to make some new boxing bushings and free up a couple of levers and it should be good to go. Nice work on yours.

The photo shows the wheel mocked up and not welded yet.

Great photos, and nice disc too. Is that a newer unit or a refurbished antique?

Hope to be discing soon myself.

Thanks for the replies. I was more thinking that seeds that had been eaten by the cattle and survived the cows digestion process might be the problem.

Bottom line is I will have to deal with it as I can’t afford or want chemical fertilizer on the field anyway.

Glad I was able to get it all harrowed in before the rain today.

My disc need the boxings too. I have no pattern and wondered if anyone has an extra they would be willing to send me or take somw pics of?

My disc was missing the front truck, so I ordered a 12 In caster and will be making my own.

    Thank you,

Thanks for the info Joshua, after a little searching on the web, i found a picture of one just like mine. It is a McCormick deering disc. I am going to order a rubber 12″ swivel caster tomorrow and build my own tounge truck. I think it will work fine with the discs that are on it for this year. I will be discing in some rye I planted as a cover crop last fall, so the soil is preety loose and should not be too bad.

Any ideas on the seeder? I have not found any info on that on the web.

    Andy,

Is the disc something you made from an old one? great job, my wheels are spinning now.
Where did you find the front dolley?

Good question, I have often wondered the same thing. It amazes me how they put all that stone together and mad it stay. I love walking along stone walls when I am hunting and often stop and sit on one to take a rest. I have never built one and would think there is a trick or two we may never know.

We sell all grades for the same price.

    Gallons 50, 1/2 gallons 27, quarts 15, pints 8 and 1/2 pints 5.

I am amazed how different the prices are, Even in my own town there are several different prices for syrup. I too am of the opinion that the lighter grades are over rated.

Hope you feel better soon Mitch. Sorry to hear about your back.

Well, we have eclipsed last year’s crop and have been boiling like crazy the last several days. Averaging 300 to 500 gallons of sap per day. I have emptied the wood shed twice and filled it back up again. We started making medium and then went to dark after last week’s warm-up. We broke the rig 😀 down and cleaned it all up and went back to medium amber this week.

Hope all is well with the rest of you, how are things in Maine Mitch? Ya lose some more snow?
