Thanks Carl, I dont have a cell phone so that might not work. I am using a handheld Garmin.

Anyone else use any programs for a laptop?

Following up after brush hogging more this summer. 4ft brush hog mounted to some angle iron brackets u bolted to the frame of a light duty I and J cart. It works well for stemy brush like golden rod and small honeysuckle regrowth. It chokes up pretty quick in thick grass and probably wouldnt work well with a thick stand of cover crop. I bet it would work great to set back young cover crop or some juicy buckwheat. The main downside I have with it for pasture clipping is the sharp stems that are left, but that is more of a pasture quality issue.
If i ran it over the thick grass with the pto off for a pass to lay the grass down and then went back in the same direction with the pto engaged it cut pretty well. If you are only brush hogging a small market garden it might be worth the two passes.

What should I use to judge when it is ok to start working her again? I have a bunch of light firewood work and some heavy skids that are less than 200 feet to landing.

Thanks, When I got home from work she seemed a lot better than this morning even trotted around the pasture a little bit. I will try to keep it clean and I might need to spring for a farrier for this next trim. I am a mediocre farrier but I have never had any issues, it sounds like I need to learn some more from someone with experience.

As long as we are working off of sweat equity (not stored energy/fossil fuels), and not trying to generate a profit off of the land I figure we are just another critter adding to the biodiversity.

Half pints are great, if you ask around there are a lot of people who modify them to run more efficiently. Congrats

Im not a facebooker so this is where I get my info. The slowness is a funny pattern, people who are cutting hay and growing veggies disappear during the summer and the loggers seem to get back on the computer???

I was just talking to my wife this morning about how after joining this community and hearing runaway stories I must be a ticking time bomb because I havent had any significant runaways. This story is a good one because I can actually relate to the small mishaps that I may have blown off as nothing. As long as no one gets hurt and the work gets done I just check it off as a little joy ride.
I have never had a mule but always liked being around my friends riding mules. I have been thinking a little bit lately about buying a young mule or two to train up as my next replacements while I still have my current bombproof horses to help train then.
Could you list some more specific stats about this mule? Age, time in harness, imprinting, runaway history, etc?

    Thanks for sharing
