ParticipantWell just my 2 cents I think that if we consentrate with a small group and then branch out then we will have a better chance! I dont think that the europeans will join in untill we show that we are orginised and opperateing in an efficant manor. As far as the insurance is concerned the only way that I have seen to get good rates is to be self insured! I was a member of the owner opperator ass. and they were never able to get compairable rates untill they organized they own holding company and made them self insurers and that will take a lot of members Lancek

ParticipantScotts absulotly right if your cost are in line and you know them than profitts will increase! And as far as timber being graded on the chain that is a missconseption froced on us by the big mills and goverment any lumber certified by an architucual enginer is exceptable in the cunstruction of a home !

ParticipantWell keep us posted we here in the united states could use the amunition to help develope more markets and govermental approvel I have the local foresters backing me here in mo but am geeting flac for the uper hyarky in wasington Lancek

ParticipantJole after reading the thread throughly I didnt see where you said anything about value added! And as far as gradeing that system is so out of date it should be abolished! That is why we have the problems in the woods today of finding good timber they have high graded everything so bad that the realy high quality timber is all but gone except on land held by goverment or private frims that would not allow this type of loging!Jason is absulutly right in the fact that if we dont start makeing more inroads into marketing all the timber in the woods, we will all be out of buisness. For instance I just made a deal to take large bur oak logs that I find are prevelant out here in Mo, and making them into timbers that bring veenerr prices wich translates into more money for me and more money for my customers we are also marketing osge orange and black and yellow locast for fence and decking material Lancek

ParticipantWell that is where mr procrastonation creeps in! Each year we say we are going to be ready for this stuff and when it comes we are not. And nobody laugh out there we are all guilty of it ! Now for the not addjusting to things that just means we are getting older. lol:D
O and thanks Scott, I think you jinks me. today I was twiching some logs along a ridge and I turned around to go back for another turn when I step on my chain the horse cept going my feet went up in the air and I landed flat on my but and if that wasnt embaresing enough I then poceded to slide down the hill in this confluant stream all the way to the big puddle at the bottom!
My boys were rolling on the ground laughing up on top of the hill and I think my horse was to because he had an allfull funny look on his face. Lanceklancek
