We will be incorperateing a forwarder trailer for the long hauls, probaly useing a tractor on the trails and the horses in the woods the land clearing work the land owner has a tracked loader and most of that work will be done with that!
and all the material will be brought back to the mill to be prosessed into product! And we will need to buy more horses Yeaa!!!!!
Ps Phil keep the skid loader they are to handy to get rid of the smaller trailer is a good idea!!!

Russel In your area there should be a wood called Iron wood its a little heavy but will not break if you cant find that wood it would be the best choice, if you cant find that then oak would be the next best choice!

Jake Thought that maybe having me wear a pink Toto out on the job may be some great advertising but the neighbor thought that seeing me behind Galahad tromping through the woods wearing a pink Toto would compel him to shoot me!

You hit the nail right on the head Carl most of these guys want to fight everything not only the land and thats why they have a hard time of it, its production at all cost and its drilled into them from the start! Some of the best loggers I know both machine and horse are the one willing to go slow an steddy and work with the terrain and not fight it. They are the ones that are always the steady producers and the most sensitive in the woods !

    Yes Scott
This is a good way to market yourself we have done a lot of ash extraction in this area and have gotten some good jobs by using this as a way to show are ability to remove timber in a sensitive way! I have also found that connecting with the highway department to extracted dead and dying timber from the road side is a great way to gain customers, people stop and are amazed at the way the horses work and will invite you to come see there woodlots to see what you can do there!

Yea its a wonder that people ever got anything done with them stupid animals why they would be allays causing problems and getting hurt its a wounder that man didn’t invent the tractor first! Or maybe except for a few the animals were smarter than the horses LOL!!!!!!
I too have seen the country that the old timers worked both in Vermont and in Wisconsin and the amount of wood that they moved is staggering I remember seeing pics in the restaurant there in Hayward of logs stacked 15 20 feet high and only four horses pulling it! and through some pretty rough terrain too it all in the conditioning of the horse and the breeding that we have lost so much of its a shame!

Scott Carl and mitchmain You all have relevant points I to have talked on here and other web pages about using bio gas to run my mill and kilns in that aspect I think that heating with wood and using it to produce bio gas are good things! Until the greed factor kicks in and then we will have a new set of problems! This is a good management tool if used right I think what we need to do is try to control it so wall street dose not do what they do best ! But sadly this will probably not happen and our grand children will suffer the after math

I have even let my timber harvesting magazine subscription laps because all they talk about is biomas any more of course all that mag is about is selling big equipment

There has been a general scare in this area that if biomass is interduced that the raw material market for grade hardwood , pallets and ties will dry up because the pulp and biomass plants are paying more per ton than we can!
