ParticipantHey Mitch I too had a pair of percheron morgan mares in the late 70s Molly and Rose bays about 2900lbs best horses I ever had in the woods would go back and forth to the landing on thier own hitch to anything and as sweet as there ever was I have a pair of percheron mares now that I want to breed but unable to find a chunk style stud so I am seriously thinking of breeding to a friends old type morgan he has been crossing his percheron mares for about 10 years now and has had some handsome horses and no problem selling them if on the light side the fancy driving people want them going to talk to him this weekend

ParticipantI built one for 100 layers a year ago put wire mesh on the floor works great and have had no foot or leg problems chickens in only at night otherwise pastured my wife does not have to crawl in to clean and we pressure wash at end of season also put side access doors at one end so she just reaches in and picks eggs out of nest whole concept works great and is fantastic for manuaring garden areas just pull tractor in fence and let the birds do the work

ParticipantNEAL AND GEORGE I bought the 4 wheel hd rubber tired spreader with manual hydrolic wet gate bulls eye coating in bed and aluminum pole delivered by Ted for $4200 2yrs ago I am sure prices have gone up some I feel spreader is well worth the money being used as it is on my dairy I went with the horse drawn model because I feel that it backs better and turns tighter also has a very big and safe front platform with guard rail that you can stand on while driving also has good side steps for getting up and down on one other feature it has is a floating front axle makes for a comfortable ride and easy on the horses on hilly or uneven ground it did freeze up on me before I got the last load spread this winter so sits full waiting for thaw all and all a good buy considering the cost and time for a rebuild on my old #10 also has blenty of greese fittings

Participantwe use them to keep heavy snow and rain from soaking collars and to help keep the neck and shoulders dry from inclement weather decoration is not a concern for us but the pairs I use are studded up with brass nicely also have a new pair for sale if anyone interested

Participant80 bushel ; another good feature is the front axel will float making for a very comfortable smooth ride also the front platform is large and the floor is steel mesh giving very good footing

Participant2yrs ago I bought a new Lancaster horse drawn spreader having a dairy and wet manuare I got it with a manual hydrolic tailgate this spreader cost me $4000 been a worthwhile investment since I use it daily till freeze up which happened this week
I had and used a NI#10 for over 20years and it was used when bought after investigating rebuilding it once again I decide on new it should last me the rest of my life and has modern grease fittiings, bearings and a top beater gives a good wide spread easy for the horses to pull even when loaded to the max have not had any machanical problems with it yet and the manufactures are good to deal with
I like horse drawn better than 2wheel cart hitch because it will turn and back tighter without hitting frame and running up on the cart wheel

ParticipantI have said it before horse sweat and harness leather no better smell
never had a nylon or bio harness but bet the same smell is not there
I have to agree with Carl the maintainece of a good leather harness is not an issue couple times a year clean and oil
now I have seen and bought many old harness hanging in sheds and barns the first thing I look for is mold why mold it tells me the leather is still alive a little soaking in warm water then a good oiling and it will jump right back to life I have harness I HAVE KEPT AND USED FOR 20 YEARS replace a strap once in awhile or fix a broken tug I wonder if the acid in horse sweat would eventually break down the synthetic harness time will tell for me the feel of leather
