Thanks George, a perfect example of posting a link to a past thread as discussed elsewhere!!!!

Interesting. I was assuming that it was a halter turned into a bridle, not the reverse. So obviously needs to be a noseband type bridle.

    Thanks,

    George,
Will you post a photo of your current setup please? Also price info from Zimmerman’s on that halter/bridle conversion?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    PS
I have done the same thing with a nail gun, putting up ceiling strapping. Lesson: Keep my non-trigger finger 6″ or so away from business end of the nail gun.

    Payton,
A secondary but perhaps worthwhile consideration is making it narrow enough to roll into the bed of a pickup w the pole up on the cab. Mine does not by a fraction & I wish it did.

    Andy,
Yes, that is a good outline, generally what I expected but nice to have a few specifics. Sounds generally quite similar to the outline Carl laid out.
    Thanks to both of you.

For those who use sleds or weighted boats and a routine for physical conditioning, what might a conditioning schedule look like? I think I recall that human weight lifters do better if they don’t lift every day (see Townie by Andre’ Dubus III, great memoir). Do you switch up days of aerobic and anaerobic exercise, do both on the same day, how often, or what? Just trying to get an idea of what to shoot for if I had nothing else to do.
Any thoughts on how feed (what, how much, when) works into the equation would also be helpful. I realise that is a whole other can of worms.
    Thanks,

On a somewhat different but related note, I thought I would be smart and set my inner guide shoe to cut a little closer since our dry July didn’t give me the greatest growth for my second crop. I typically run in the second hole from the top (out of 4 total) on my McD #9. I set it down one hole and tipped my bar forward a notch or 2 more than typical as I find that effects the height of the stubble as well. I didn’t have a lot of plugging trouble but got launched off the seat over the left wheel more than once when that small difference found rocks I usually glide over. When I let my good sense over rule my greed I reset to my original position & finished without incident. As it happens, when I did the reset I was in the middle of a piece that I mow in 2 sessions. When the hay was all baled and I looked over the stubble, I couldn’t tell from the stubble where I had changed.
Perhaps I have learned my lesson.

    Good thread.
    Random thoughts:
If I assume that the cutter bar is properly setup and knife is sharp as discussed, and then step back, I see that the issue is making the cutter bar and particularly the grass board & stick as slippery as possible to slide through the cut grass while opening up the best consistent path for the inner shoe for the next round.
Seems the first step might be removing the grass stick.
From there, maybe loosen the spring tension on the grass board so it could flex & “dump” (though we are trying to avoid the necessity of “dumping”) more easily. This is presuming a wooden grass board. I am not sure that the fingers on a steel one are removable.
Fabbing a “second cut” grass board that is smaller in some dimension(s) might be worth a try to give a path that is bigger than shoe only but more consistent than the standard grass board.
Also though this may sound extreme, my outer shoe has spent quite a lot of time outdoors in its life and is rust pitted. Drag your fingernails over the surface from front to back. Do they catch? Might be worth polishing and maybe even waxing.
Finally, my knife sections & hold downs are held with the “nuts up” configuration & I have cut any of the bolt that extends above the nut so it is flush (4″ angle grinder) to minimize the “attack profile” of the entire cutter bar.
Then there is, if available, the helper to follow with a fork to “pitch back”. 🙂

(Annotated) Agenda for BoD Meeting this Evening, 9/7/12 7PM

The conference call number is: 913-227-1219 or toll-free at 888-296-6500 . Passcode is 411975.

We have a lot of possible ground that we could cover tonight. The original topic of the FDs and now the administration issue. We likely will have Annual Meeting questions issues as well.

    I suggest:

    1. Confirm time allotments & order of discussion of Agenda.

    2. Annual Meeting questions/issues that are critical for the group to decide if any. Questions/issues for individuals can be handled privately. 15 minutes – Reva

    3. Fields Days- There is the “IF” question. Please be sure to read Erika’s post above. She has given it thought, time & effort and suggests we leave the final yay or nay to the new BoD. (See section 2, PP 2 of her post.) Then there are any and all other details. I suggest we try to agree on what we need to decide (a framework) rather than trying to hammer out the answers (content).
    45 minutes – Mark

    4. Administration- What are our needs? What can we afford? How do we decide? What are our goals to advance our mission, what objectives will help us attain those goals, what strategies do we have to complete the objectives? (Should I delete that last sentence?) I suggest we begin the Administrator question discussion as time permits but do not try to resolve it in one go-round.
    30 minutes – Mark

This lays out as an hour & a half meeting.

My questions and suggestions are obviously beyond my agenda responsibilities as moderator. They are done in the spirit of trying to expedite the discussions. Please post or email any suggestions, particularly time allotments & order of discussion.

“See” you tonight, please be prompt.

    All,
An issue not huge in the scheme of things but probably worth addressing. It is the one thing that the atty said could be better in the 501 application.
In the 501 application there is a question about distribution of assets in the event of dissolution:

Section 501(c)(3) requires that upon dissolution of your organization, your remaining assets must be used exclusively
for exempt purposes, such as charitable, religious, educational, and/or scientific purposes. Check the box on line 2a to
confirm that your organizing document meets this requirement by express provision for the distribution of assets upon
dissolution. If you rely on state law for your dissolution provision, do not check the box on line 2a and go to line 2c.

Since we do address it in our articles of incorporation, I checked 2a. However, the way we address it is to rely on state law:

Dissolution: Upon the dissolution of the corporation, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code, or shall be distributed to the federal, state or local government for a public purpose. Any such assets not disposed of shall be disposed of by the Court of the county in which the principal office of the corporation is then located, exclusively for such purposes or to such organization(s) as said Court shall determine, which are organized and operated exclusively for such purposes.

Below the above (!) there is a space for more specific instructions which is blank.

So… It would probably be advisable to amend the by-laws to specify some org to get our assets. You may recall from the bylaws that the process for amending is:

    ARTICLE VII — AMENDMENTS
Section 1 — Amendments: These bylaws may be amended when necessary, but any change
would require a vote of the Board of Directors (see Article IV, Section 7), followed by a vote of
the membership (see Article III, Section 4).

So if we are going to do it we should have the “vote of the membership” at the annual meeting.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mark

If a person knew they would only rake & tedd hay (say, 13-14′ tedder max) with a powered forecart, how big, or small, an engine do you suppose they might get away with & still have enough power?
Figured you guys could think about it while you were drying your socks!
