ParticipantInteresting note on Mitch’s picture that Carl blew up. In the original of the several teams, only one is using a D-ring. An early adopter or some other kind of outlier?
Fascinating thread.

ParticipantWell Ethan if only they made a low heel for these old knees I’d be in good shape, except my narrow feet swim in a EE! 🙂

ParticipantBill,

ParticipantScott,
Thanks for the Ebay reminder, I forget about it sometimes.
Wish I had gotten down to Brad’s for the day but was tied up. Haven’t managed to get to either of the two East Coast events you have made but someday we’ll meet.
Let me know if you have some sort of plan in mind for a western “franchise” of the PiggyBack FireWood Arch. We ought to be able to brainstorm something. PM me if you want.

ParticipantBrad,
Did he have this issue when someone else was shoeing him?

ParticipantMeeting is 7-9 PM.
Thank you Ed & Erika.
Will someone with “the power” move this thread to the “Minutes” forum please. Since the agenda is already on here, after tonight, the minutes for the meeting can be added. That seems to me to be a good protocol unless someone objects or has a better idea.
Also, the minutes from our last meeting can be added to the thread for that meeting. Have we seen those minutes & I just don’t remember? I can’t find them. If not, we will table discussion & approval until next month so that we can review them “off meeting”.
Thanks,Mark

Good photos of Carl’s and Les’s horses harnessed.

ParticipantRod,
Interesting point about the possibility of the back “sagging” on a cross slope drag. I was thinking about coming more or less straight down hill in slippery going and the ass end trying to catch up to the front around the side when the team is holding back the load. If that was an issue, my thought would be stay chains from pole to sides of boat nose to allow a little sideways play but not too much, similar to the amount you might have on a scoot rig.
I’ve never done it, I’m just thinking.

ParticipantEd,
Looks good. Where did you get your keyholes? Interesting using them to attach draw chain, gives you adjustment, that’s for sure.
MarkMark Cowdrey
ParticipantRod,
Do you do anything to prevent the pole/boat angle from getting too sharp? As in jack-knifing coming down a slippery hill?
Thanks,

Ole is on his deathbed. The doctor has told him he has only a few hours to live. He catches the scent of his favorite bars wafting through the air. With all the strength he can muster, he drags himself into the kitchen and sees a fresh pan cooling on the rack. He cuts one out and bites into the scrumptious cookie. Lena comes in, smacks his hand, and says, “Shame on you, Ole! Dese are for after de funeral!”Mark Cowdrey

I use a spread-chain to hitch to my sled runners instead of a single length of chain. It really doesn’t change the functionality, but I find it easier to hook to with my skidding set-up…. bitch-link. This way the evener actually sweeps with the pole as it pivots under the front bunk. Also I prefer to have my evener on top of the pole, as if the pull lifts the pole under the front of the loaded logs it can get jammed against a log when trying to turn. I also like to hitch the evener close to the front of the load, giving better lift, and keeping pole length down, so I actually can’t hook the draw chain through the nose ring.

Carl,
I think I almost understand this. What is a “spread chain”?
“actually sweeps with the pole as it pivots”, because it is not constrained further forward by the 5″ pole ring? Or?
It looks like you have a short length of chain attached with a clevis to the ring in the center of the draw chain that you then “hook to with my skidding set-up…. bitch-link”. Is that what I am seeing?
It also looks like the hitch point of your evener is just forward of the runner noses. Is that about right?
Thanks,
