ParticipantBrad,
Thanks for the added info on your saw selection process.Keep us posted on how it works out.
So, to follow up the .325 v 3/8 issue, I am guessing that fewer teeth per inch (W/the 3/8) translates into a less bogging/faster chain speed/faster cutting scenario?? Is that it?
Thanks,

ParticipantBrad,
Can’t wait to see the pics and read the article in the DAPNet newsletter!!

ParticipantBrad,
Why did you go Jonsred instead of sticking with Husky?
Also, from a guy who doesn’t cut that much and uses a 50 cc saw w a .325 chain.
1. Given a specific tooth configuration, it seems a smaller chain would take less power to run, therefore maximizing use of power available (chain speed), equaling faster cutting.
2. If this is not true, why not? If it is true, what other factor (other than a Ford/Chevy argument) indicates selecting a 3/8 chain?
Thanks,
MarkI just partially answered my own question through Wikipedia:
“Gauge. The gauge of the chain is the thickness of the drive links, and is dictated by the gauge of the bar on which it is to be run. Usual gauges are .050″ (1.3 mm) – .058″ (1.5 mm) and .063″ (1.6 mm). Chain and bar gauge must match; a chain that is too large will not fit, one that is too small will fall sideways and cut poorly.
Pitch. The pitch of the chain is the average distance between two rivets. As the distance between rivets varies, the pitch can be measured by measuring between three rivets and dividing this distance by two. Usual pitches are 0.325″, 3/8″ and 0.404″. 3/4″ is used for harvester applications, and very rarely for handheld cutting. the pitch of the chain must match the drive sprocket, and the nose sprocket (if fitted).”So that indicates to me that it is the gauge that I was thinking of even though I was using the term pitch (incorrectly). So a .325 chain has (I think) more teeth on a given length of chain which would tend to….require more power??? Back to my original thought, a follow up question would be, is the gauge of a 3/8 chain typically heavier than that of a .325?

ParticipantI can do 5:30.

ParticipantSo is the Dec BoD meeting definitely scheduled for Sunday 12/18?

ParticipantJohn,
I work similar to what Mitch describes.
After I unhitch the load I unhitch one end of the whiffletree. My trace “clips” on the top of the britchen are double-end snaps. Since am right handed, I unclip the right one from the top of the britchen & clip it onto the ring that joins the right end of the britchen & the side strap. It is then at a convenient ht for me to clip the right trace at the end of the trace leather after I unhook it from the whiffle tree, while I am still bent over. It is also more convenient for me to reach when I am making the hitch. My horse then drags the whifflle tree & chain back to the woods by the left trace only. It is usually possible, with some forethought, to set him up on the next load with a tight Haw turn at the log hitch point so he is walking around the whiffle tree & chain rather than it dragging against him. It could just as well be done “mirror image” if someone preferred.
Clear as mud?
I also do not tie my lines together & use a keyhole grab, which I find gives a shorter hitch & does not snag. As practical as brown & black line combo might be, I just can’t get my head around it aesthetically. Probably bite me in the ass some day.Nice quiet horse. Good to see you out here.

ParticipantI’ll reiterate my broken record request for members to make sure the “Location” portion of their profile is filled in so that we all know where you are posting from.
Thanks,

ParticipantWell it is not just up to me. I do think that he amount of vertical space that the graphic takes up is a draw back. Perhaps it cold be “provisional”, although that is dangerous.
Let’s wait & see what others think.

ParticipantDid we settle on a time/date for the BoD meeting?

ParticipantI would like Reva to be there for Finance comm reporting. What about Sun 12/18??

ParticipantI am interested to hear more detail about the new format.

Here is a link to a google map that anyone should be able to edit. Just go to the link, click the edit button, click on the blue arrow thing at the top of the screen and put it where you are. Make sure to click “Save” when you’re done. If this works out well we could embed a map like this into the website.
Ethan,
I get a prompt asking me what program I want to use to open the MS file. Which one should I use?
Thanks,

Ed,
Wen you say “we”, do you mean the whole BoD or just the P&E comm?

I did not intend that we would change the fees w/o discussion about it. Upon further reflection, I can see ow “farm/family” makes a good category for membership.
Thanks,
