I agree with Donn. Around here every thing that is in decent shape usually ends up as a lawn ornament or scrap. It really sucks when you go to an auction and you get out bid by someone just looking to decorate their yard.

ParticipantThanks, Missy.
Is the reason to do it before rain so it doesn’t blow away? Can you stock pile it w/o issue so you have it to spread at an appropriate time?

ParticipantDon,
Good going. I wish you weren’t tied up elsewhere during the Innovation Workshop, we will definitely be “nodding at” this rig if it is there. Thanks.Do you find that the 3 horse/mule hitch is the right size for raking/tedding?

ParticipantRod,
The tie-ups will be for milking & I plan to turn them out daily as Joshua described. My thought is to run the calf with the mom during the day and separate at night for morning milking. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.
Joshua,
Thanks.Mark

ParticipantJoshua,
When using stanchions, about how high off the floor? Would a 4×6 on edge be about right for height & effective foe keeping hay in the manger? Or higher? Are tie chains preferable to stanchions (for example, for cow comfort) if you have the option?
Thanks,

ParticipantHey you guys,
The fact of you all being very articulate aside:D, photos of your setups would be great teaching tools. In your spare time, of course.
Thanks,

ParticipantGeorge,
I use 1 stub guard on a 5 foot bar cuz it came that way. Works fine. You may end up running your knife a tad tighter than you would w regular ledger plates. Anyone else find this to be so?If local turns out to be too pricey, try Shoup MFG CO http://www.shoupparts.com. I have been pleased w them also for rake teeth & drive chain.

ParticipantGeorge,
I agree that cutting the existing bar is not the way to go. I am sure it would be way more work than you anticipate based on similar projects I have undertaken! Is it you who is using the reciprocating , double-cut knives & guards? New last year? Getting in need of a tune-up?
Is your mower a High Gear #9?
Good luck,

I believe he has them ready to mow.

ParticipantWell my welder thinks he can fix them.
I am at a loss why they broke. They were up in the bale chamber when they did, so I assume it is plunger related.
I’ve got some head scratching ahead of me this weekend!

ParticipantWhat program do you use to downsize? I tried Paint & it did, but cropped from the top left corner rather than keeping the whole image.

ParticipantDonn,
Not set hours as I must be pretty flexible around here, tho generally 7-9 Am and 6-8 PM or there abouts. Last night we finished mowing 7:30 & I am about to go out again so they had hay in a paddock both PM & AM. I grained 2# apiece before we went out for the second time yesterday, we did 2 hours AM and PM, as these horses are not hard & one is only just 5 YO. They are not on maintenance grain tho were for 2 months this spring. I do feed a couple flakes at noon & a couple when they go in the paddock for the night so that they think they are getting something. I am fortunate that my pastures radiate out from my buildings & go no more than 500 yds and usually a lot less. I go over some of my ground 4 or 5 times in a season. I have 18 acres total, about 6 in pasture. If I can figure out the photo thing I will post some pics.
