ParticipantBill, you are probably right on the chain guards. Mine are there but they are very rusty and thin. I thought about making some but that never seems to happen.

ParticipantI use a McCormick Deering 4A with a pair of Haflingers. The one is not real stout but they don’t have any trouble pulling it when it is heaped up. I could use a pair of tin chain guards for both sides if anyone has some.

ParticipantI didn’t see the show last week, but I did see a ground drive baler a couple years ago when we were at Historic Prophetstown. It was a John Deere but I don’t remember what model. It looked like someone did a real nice job converting it.

ParticipantThanks for your help Gordon. Now I have another project for the winter. I have used my forge once so far now I have a reason to fire it up again.

ParticipantThanks Gordon. If I could come up with a bolt I think I have a coulter that is just like the one you have. I would appreciate any help. Thanks again.

ParticipantGordon, I believe mine is a 14″. My soil is very sandy also. If I was real adventurous(SP) I could come up with four haflingers but I don’t know if I am that brave yet. Does your plow have some sort of eye bolt to hold on the coulter? Mine has a hole to use an eye bolt around the shank of the coulter and the bolt goes thru the casting with a nut on the back but all of that is missing.

ParticipantI have the same plow and the same build haflingers now I really can’t wait to give it a try. I just wish I could find a coulter for it.

ParticipantI would like the shed space. Make me a reasonable offer.

ParticipantIt looks like the one setting out in my shed. Mine has no markings that I could find. Around here they bring several hundred dollars as the Amish are using them.

ParticipantThanks Jim. I tried the link but for some reason I can’t get it to work. When I click on download it just sits there and does not do anything. I may have to get help from the IT department(wife).

ParticipantI bought mine from http://www.openpollinated.com it is wapsie valley. Supposed to be 87 day. I have not harvested any yet but it looks good. It is supposed to do well in poor soil, which I have. I don’t recall the mans name but he is very helpful. When I was shopping around he was by far the cheapest. They have several other varieties also. I have cut some stalks to get the field opened up for the picker and I throw everything in for the cows. They come running whenever they see me with a few stalks in hand.

ParticipantI am getting anxious to jump on the old JD 55 but it has been so wet around here lately. It is supposed to dry up this week but we will see. I was able to find a head with a floating cutter bar so beans should be a lot faster now.

ParticipantNo they don’t have it out yet. I wish I would have taken some pictures when I was there. They said there was a few prototypes on local farms to try.
When I was there in April they had a set of discs, spring drags, and they were working on a regular cultivator bottom.Marshall
ParticipantI hear ya on the ice cream addiction. From what I saw it wouldn’t be hard to adapt Pioneers to a walk behind. The different tools hang from th bottom. They have a hook on each side and two bolts go in to hold them on. Basically all you would have to do is remove the seat and bracket and install some handles. It could also be made without the foot steering apparatus.
Just a thought.Marshall
ParticipantYou mighr want to check with Pioneer, they are working on a tool bar type setup. It is patterned after the McCormick riding cultivator, but with several attatchments.
