ParticipantI can feel the excitement:). Congratulations. Ask away but to maximize the info here don’t forget to use our “search” option to find previous posts on some topics as well.
As far as D-ring goes. If you can fit it in your budget, great but IMHO use what you can afford to start with. What have Tom and Henry been using up to now? Is that available?
Enjoy.

ParticipantIt’s funny that the original designers recognized the need for a designated “weak link” or shear pin and later users screw it up by replacing it with steel.

ParticipantDang it Kevin – I thought we blocked those states. : )

I’ll try to cover you, friend! Where your ideas go…I will follow 🙂
Be careful – I’ve gone over a few cliffs in my day. Luckily I bounce:o.

ParticipantShould we just go off the list in the Equipment heading? I’ll be glad to try and give it a go but you need to bear with me (as you can see my skills are on par with those of Napoleon Dynamite).
Mike – RE: latitudes, I know. Those Great Lakes really alter the perspective. Check out the lat of John in the UK. At those lats here in North America they’d see way more severe weather : )

Geoff, I think my got something bound up between the main gear and the smaller drive gear, like pea gravel maybe, and thats what caused it to bust. I never could find another #6 so I used a Case for about two or three years and then a gentleman here town gave me the #6 you see here. I almost made a one horse mower out of it but decided against the idea. I still believe I can out-cut anybody with a #9 any day of the week, and I have outdone 7’s before. I’d like to ask, do either of you use the crazy wheel on your mowers? I personally do not, mainly because I refuse to give $125 or higher for it and I cant take cutting that good tongue in half!
MacNo crazy wheel here either. IMO once you have a teamster on the seat, it counter balances much of the tongue’s weight
Mac – funny you mention pea gravel as that’s what caused the gear to bust on mine too. Some got jammed between the knife sections and the guards – should have snapped the pitman stick but didn’t. Lesson – avoid pea gravel.

ParticipantMake sure to take a good look at the ledger plates on your guards. That’s the other half of your cutter system and they can get quite worn. If I recall Donn Hewes, one of our resident mower gurus here on the forum, has mentioned sharpening the plates up with a 4.5″ grinder.
Here’s the notes I had RE: the oil seal. Pitman oil seal – inside diameter 1.125 inches (1 1/4″) / outside diameter 1.825 inches (1 13/16″). Comparable Car Quest number – A10145 476838. I think these are a little thinner so the original poster mentioned possibly using 2 of them. NOTE: this said it was for a #9 but I imagine you can see if your measurements are similar on the #7.
Jay and other mower guys – please chime in if I’m off base or things need clarification.

ParticipantErika, I agree about “another account” but it seems to be the nature of the internet beast. Thanks to you and Mike for sticking with it. BTW – I need to look at where your “mark” is since you’ve moved (?) and definitely gotta see where Bouctouche, New Brunswick is! I bet Santa Claus lives near Mike.

Do those of you that are having issues have a Google account?
Doh! Herein lies the likely problem. Try setting up a google acct- no big deal.

ParticipantAs Scott said, you can’t expose a team to every potential stimuli before it happens but I think you (me) can work on your response to their response (self-discipline). We can use a lot of terms for how/what we do with our animals to allay their fears/concerns – desensitization, habituation, association ….. IMO none really describe what we do very well.

ParticipantThanks Carl – I found that Safari works as well.

ParticipantMike – the EDIT button should be to the right of the top of the member locations list you see. Not top right of the map but top right of the list. Explorer shouldn’t be a problem either
As far as the hyper link goes – not sure why I can’t get it to work.
Okay – now it works but I’ll leave this “alternative” route (through this thread) up for awhile since the direct link wouldn’t function correctly when I was using my wife’s Mac laptop and running Safari as a browser. Explorer seemed to handle the direct link fine – I’ll try Mozilla here in a bit.
BTW – I took the “liberty” of removing the double posts on the map. Hope no one is offended.
Last – try the direct link and let me know if it works for you or not. If not, note what browser you’re using as well as the version but make sure to let me know and we’ll try and remedy the problem. It’s too nice of a tool/toy to miss out on.

ParticipantYikes – the Yukon. Don’t you guys have a polar bear on your license plates? That’s also the only place I’ve ever seen a pickup with 3 plugs hanging out of the front grill to warm the engine : 0
Welcome to the forum.

ParticipantThanks John and Joe – I’ll check into those leads.
I saw one in Lynn’s Haying book that had expanded metal for the “tire” on the bull wheel (it was at HPD one year). I thought that was sort of a one time thing since I never heard more about the GD balers. The one at Dris’ place had a rubber-tired bull wheel – probably just an Amish/English thing.
Anyone have some negatives to report on these units?
