ParticipantYou bet that’s a good deal. You can try using that Phospho stuff that Lynn recommends for treating the rust (after knocking off the loose scale) – then you can paint right over it. Works good.
Also, somewhere I wrote down the part numbers for seals that you can buy from your local auto parts store that will fit. I’ll see if I can find them – got ’em here on the forum.

ParticipantI wonder if the benefit of the enclosed gear mowers might be in how well the “survived” being drug around behind tractors at speeds they weren’t designed for. BTW- I have a Big 6 that blew the main gear as well – should have broke the pitman stick but the cast “spokes” just shattered instead. Balster’s had a brand new gear for me but I started using a #9 before I got the 6 back together.

….. it is still probably the first house on the right after you pass Anderson road going west on Pleasant hill. It’s a log house set back probably 100 yards off the road with alot of outbuildings. I never lived at this place, and don’t really know the neighbors. I do know there are (or at least used to be) some greenhouses when you go up Anderson road. Is this the Mason place? Dad probably knows them esp since they have cattle too, ask them when you see them again if they know Bob. It is a small world, but also a sparsely populated state :)…..
The greenhouses are the Mason’s and I think I did meet your dad once – he was going to run his cows over at Mason’s place and was over there doing some fencing I think.

ParticipantCarl – I do see your point(s) and agree totally that the self-discipline is a great challenge, certainly for me. Can you explain more about what your actions would be with regard to your last statement? Let’s say you go out to hitch and your horse is not willing to stand still – what specifically do you do?

ParticipantThanks Carl. Yah – I tried that initially and boogered things up so I took the easy route to get things started. I will see about setting the URL into the category soon. I do think the map is a pretty neat feature.
Tried setting to direct link to the map URL – no luck. It might have to do with linking to “our” map vs just linking to Google maps in general. Anyway, it kind of chingered things up so I had to redo what we had already. Hope everyone is still able to use the map.

Wow Geoff, I had no idea you lived so close to my Dad. He’s on Pleasant hill rd (near the intersection of Anderson rd) probably five miles from your “spot”.
PS. I don’t see a blue arrow either. Not sure how to add myself to this…
Hey Andy – we have some friends who live on Anderson Rd (Doug and Pat Mason) and drove there 2x a day from 2004-2008 to feed calves we had there. Did your dad buy some bare ground there 5-7 years ago? There was a 320 acre piece of farm ground that was divided into 80’s during that 04-08 period. Small world!
BTW – not that I’m encouraging snooping but you can use the satellite component of Google maps to look at the real geography of where our members live 😮

ParticipantExcellent!!! Thanks Ethan. Now we can discuss what info to have associated with member locations – accepts internship/apprentices, forestry, ……. Well – I hope my blue bubble got saved.
Ooops – said unable to save. Better check this out more. Maybe I plunked my marker in a pond or something : 0
All better. Operator error but now I’m somewhere!! : )

ParticipantHi Evan and welcome.
Where abouts in Oregon are you headed? There’s usually a good opportunity to work with draft horses at the Mader’s farm near Halfway,OR (far eastern OR) – if you don’t mind switching to Belgians for awhile.

ParticipantHey John – any chance your friend is still willing to give us some help with a “member map”? Thought I’d try and rekindle some interest.

ParticipantHi Jim,
The organizing of photos after the move to the new template is a mess to say it nicely. But try this and see if it gets you what you’re looking for:
Go into Gallery (at top of page) then select Picture Gallery. Finally, in the search bar near the top right type in “sled” and you will get all pics that had sled in the title. If that doesn’t get the pic you’re looking for, we need to try other similar terms or perhaps Carl can help with other terms associated with the pic you’re looking for.
Keep me posted and we’ll get you fixed up.

ParticipantHere the used fly ash from the power plant as ground cover in front of the feedbunks when I was at the university. That stuff packed down like pavement and really helped with the mud and foot rot/scald issues.

ParticipantGeorge – I’m glad to hear of your positive experience with the WOOFers. I think you make a valid point in clearly identifying and stating goals and expectations.

ParticipantJohn – must be spreadin’ in the snow. We’re in that mode now and I assume you are too.
Karl – where are you getting 50T of wood ash?
