Its a rainy day here. Started shoing and ran out of #9 nails then stared welding and ran out of mig wire. So it is a good afternoon to add soome pictures of a operation I’v been part of the past three winters. Some day I’ll get a scanner and post older pics 🙂 I did my best to add a short note to each explaining who, what and why. Didn’t post them on the tread not knowing how and to save space. I think they should be in my profile.Enjoy

Tristan,
You mention in the picture gallery that your sled is built to allow felling right onto the sled – is that right? Can you describe the construction of the sled/materials? Do you build them yourself? The look pretty nice.

ParticipantJean, in fact we do have a special blocker to keep you “mini- nuts” from posting too many pics. Let’s see what we can do about bumping up your pic allowance (if you PROMISE no minis ; ) In fact shouldn’t miniatures only get thumbnail size pics? Seems appropriate – oh except they won’t show up at all because they’re already small – got it.
Jean – can you give me more info. Are you posting pics in an album or in a thread? Kind of walk me through what’s happening if you would please. Thanks again.

ParticipantI will forward a request from some of our membership:
If there are any demonstration(s) of equipment or techniques at the annual meeting, please make every effort to document them ideally with video. There’s been a proposal for us to develop a very directed “how to ……. ” and have it available either here on the forum or on our sister site and these video clips could provide a nice visual.

ParticipantNo worries Erika – you’re always keeping us thinking : ) (and it hurts my head). I think the October 1 is a good date – things get so messy around Jan 1. Also – Brad and others who are part of othe Member organizations – when is dues due (what)?
Best of luck with the cleanup. Any word from Jay?

ParticipantHi Dave
I’m in. Will rough camp too. Now I’m not sure exactly where Robert’s place is. I thought he said right next to BLM Hammer Creek Rec Area. If I remember right there’s a pretty good sized rest area at Skookumchuck not far from the Hammer Creek site.

ParticipantI think Andy makes a good point. We can mask or remove the indicators we associate with spoilage of a food while still leaving behind opportunistic bacteria etc. That was somewhat the case in some research related to Vit E extending the shelf life of meat. Vit E slowed the oxidation of hemoglobin to myoglobin or metmyoglobin (if I recall correctly) and thus allowed meat to stay “pink/red” longer. When chemically assayed, the end products of breakdown/spoilage were still present even though the meat “looked” good. In short – Vit E (fed to animals prior to slaughter) masked our visual cue that meat was spoiled/aged etc while doing nothing for actually “extending” the shelf life of the product.
I know it’s not milk or honey but just making a point.

ParticipantScott – see if this map helps. I think the actual site Robert’s talking about is next to BLM Hammer Creek Recreation Area. 30 miles N of Riggins and 5 miles S of Whitebird on HWY 95 (out of Boise).

ParticipantThanks Erika. I spent this afternoon w/ Robert visiting and having lunch in Deary. It was a good visit – we were cackling like hens at each other : )
Scott – are you thinking of coming up? Woo hoo!

ParticipantKarl, Joshua and others suffering from Irene’s wrath –
Please feel free to vent your frustrations, complaints and concerns here as needed. I feel the very least we can provide is a shoulder and a sympathetic listening ear. Wish we could do more than that. I’m glad you, your families and animals are alright.

ParticipantAre you getting kicked out on Firefox Robert? I was under the impression that was the solution.

ParticipantHi Kristi,
I do know that the contact person is Stan Riebold (509) 648-4272 but he’s a tough one to get ahold of. Also Tom Hennigar (509) 648-3462. They might be going sooner than 10AM since they have a nice lunch at noonish or so. That said, if you get there at 10 there’ll be plenty going on. PM me with your phone number and I’ll be in contact if I’m going and we can ride together. Does Robert want to go too?

ParticipantYes = I think it might be the version of Windows Explorer being used.

ParticipantI might try and make it this year, although the wheat was still a little green last week when I drove by. Not sure if I’ll bring my horses – there’s sort of a limited amount of equipment to use but one can always drive them round the grounds getting exposure to more novel sights and sounds (like the steam valve releasing on the steam powered tractor). How bout you?
