ParticipantI have an Amish friend with a blind buggy horse. Drives it all over the community. When he goes someplace he just gets out of the buggy and lets it stand there untied, just like the work horses. He says not use tying him as he doesn’t know where to go.

ParticipantA horse chiro may work. I stopped at my Amish shoer one day and there was a chiro working on a horse. There was another horse tied next to it for shoeing. The guy happened to mention that the horse had a “tight” tail. I was hard to lift to put on the crouper. The chiro said no problem and gave is a couple pulls and said try it now. You could lift it with one finger!
ParticipantI had a similar incident once. They stepped ahead as I was gathering the lines to get on the forecart. It must have suprised them as they took off. Luckily as it turned out, I only ended up with one line, the one on my side. I just planted my feet and hauled on the line and they made about three circles around me at a gallop. Then I was able to work my way up the line closer to them amd got them under control. You can’t stop them if you are behind them going the same way they are. Have to turn them to get control. I stepped on to the forecart and they behaved the rest fo the time. I think they were kind of embarrested.

ParticipantDon’t have any to sell but. Checked out prices for a friend and at my amish harness maker’s he had two 23-25 inch ones for $115. That might give you an idea of what a fair used price might be.
ParticipantHorses gaining weight and loosing weight is why I went to adjustable collars. Gives you a few inches of adjustment. They are also a little wider at the top than regualar collars for those fatter wider necks. I just put them on over the head and don’t open the top.

ParticipantWe helped friends tap last weekend and have been collecting all week. Running decent. A couple slow days when it was cloudy. Have around 300 taps out. Made about 10 gallons of syrup to so far. We are in SW WI between Richland Center and Viroqua.
ParticipantBe sure to work them up to pulling that weight. You don’t want to have them not be able to pull it and make them balky.
