ParticipantThanks OldKat. My family works on the blog mostly. I believe my sisters had the most to do with the playlist. We’re in Alabama.

Nice harvest festival. Great website. Thanks for the music.
Thanks! It was a lot of fun with Friends and Family and a few folks who just saw us and stopped by.

ParticipantTry this link… http://msucares.com/crops/seed/order/sweet_sorghum2.pdf
The number is (662) 325-2390. If you call them they could probably tell you which variety is best for your area or at least the merits of each type.Smalltown
ParticipantWe grew our first crop of Sorghum cane last year and made Syrup. Planted about 2ac. of M81e (sounds like an anti-tank gun or something I know) that I ordered from Mississipi State University. http://msucares.com/crops/sorghum/descriptions.html
Their seeds are open pollinated (non GMO) and the folks I talked with were very helpfull. I think it cost me $50 to plant the 2 acres. We planted the M81e because it has a thicker base and therefore won’t lodge (blow over, which ruins the crop) as easily. We planted the second week of June and it was ready by early Oct…
Here are some pics of us making syrup…http://barnhousenews.blogspot.com/2011/03/sorghum.html
Sorghum is fun 😀 and we plan to plant more this year.

Participant$4 gas set off the housing crises a few years ago, I wonder what new lows our economy will sink to if prices jump again?
Cheap fuel back in the day spread our country out so much, we drive everywhere. It’s nothing in America to jump in a car and drive an hour or two to pick up something, the process of readjusting all that will be painful.
I have some friends in Ireland and they say that while fuel costs much more they also drive much less than Americans, not just because prices are higher but because society is structured differently, more localized, villages etc.

Looks great. What kind of disc is that?
Thanks. I’m not sure what the brand name is but it’s one of the old 5′ drag type disks and you can set the angle of the disks to cut better. I like it.

ParticipantThanks. Here are the only other pics I have of the disk.

ParticipantCool! That just looks like it would work great. It’s amazing that some things that were so useful and ingenious got lost some time back. Thanks for posting.
