back rim winch

    Has anyone tried using the back rim of an old tractor…take the tire off wrap a cable around the rim and make continuous loop winch?

    my brother had a ground cable skidder fix this way. had to power it with a old dozer to get the power and control needed. a truck axel seemed to travel to fast if I remember right. also ran out of power with more than three med.sized logs.
