ModeratorNice footage, I am glad that you were able to share this with us. On a side note, I really like how simple cattle equipment can be compared to horse harness.

ParticipantVery nice, thank you for sharing. But I think you need longers handles on the plow. My back is killing me just watching that guy…
And nice looking oxen.

I was thinking the same thing!
Bivol: I see that those oxen have a long barrel, long legs, white hair & black switch and are pretty tall. Have lyre shaped horns. Hmmmm, are those by any chance Italian White cattle (Chianina) or maybe a cross? Look to have a touch of bos indicus influence; but with no hump, little sheath and dewlap and not a whole lot of “ear”. Maybe a Chianina X with just a touch of Guzerat / Kankrej cattle?

Participantas Bivol is from Croatia/Europe, I think, it will be the breed “Boskarin”
which you can see here: http://www.istrianet.org/istria/fauna/cattle/boskarin-album.htmJanuary 8, 2009 at 6:47 pm #49013bivol
Participanthi!
glad you all like it!
yep these oxen are indigenous european breed. they have absolutely no bos indicus blood, but do have some romagnola blood, even if only a bit. in 19th century the attempt was made to “improve” the breed by crossing with other breeds, but it was quickly discarded because the crossbred animals were inferior to the purebred ones in working performance, stamina, longevity and resiliance.
this breed is i think by far the most docile of all podolian breeds. - AuthorPosts
