ParticipantWell, I am thinking of growing some corn next year and grinding cob and all for cow feed. I only have two problems with that. The first is there is no longer and grain elevators around that will grind cob corn. The second is, I sold my hammer mill. I was wondering how it would work to feed the cobs into my papec silo filler and blow it into a gravity wagon. Would it break it up without making it into powder? Getting feed around here is getting discouraging. They want you to buy everything prebagged. The local elevators won’t even take oats any more. Thanks for any help.

ParticipantHow many head are you going to be grinding for. If its only a few head I’ve used a yard chipper. works good but slow.

ParticipantI will only have a few. I just figured since I already have the silo filler it might work.

ModeratorThe guys here think that you would not be able to break the ears up with the silo filler, you would be better off with the hammer mill, you need to feed it in slowly to break the cobs up they say.

ParticipantI can see how that would happen. The stalk would not be there to control the speed of feed.
