    Glad the shaft is out. Oil from the gear box is the only oil for the axle. Operating with the tongue at the right level helps insure oil traveling over all the gears and axle. I fill my gear box to just below the mid point of the lowest gear. I have used a light weight motor oil, but would like to try the gear hoist oil Lynn Miller recommends. Hard to find.

    the #9 I drug out of the flowerbed had locked wheels. So we opened the gear housing and it was full of water- ICE! About blew a nut dragging it out of the guys yard so got some hot water and melted the chunk of ice…..Seemed to roll a lot better after that:rolleyes:
    Anyways, I have found the cleaning properties of chainsaw bar oil to work great for rusty projects, it seems to have different detergents in it than other motor oil? I filled the mower with chainsaw oil and ran it 20 acres and all the rusty deposits/discoloration etc. were gone.
    Not sure if that was ok to do but I did it…

    Is 15w40 oil Ok?

    Also I was wondering if you can paint any part of the blades. I can just paint the actual cutting bar because I have to replace the blades anyway.

    I think you are supposed to use 30 weight motor oil.

    Hi all

    Can someone please take a photo of the lifting mechanism as well as that mechanism that connects to the clutch and takes it out of gear when everything is lifted.

    IMO – I’d stay on the llighter weight side of things with the lube. We’re not really running stuff at truly high speeds and too heavy just adds more “drag” to the whole system.

    Anybody ever run bar oil in the gear box? I know it’s sort of heavy but bar oil has that “stickiness” that helps it stay on the chain – would that be of value on mower gears as well?

    I do think you want to stay on the light side, in the oil department. The oil will be picked up and thrown as it was designed easier. Lynn Miller recommended a gear hoist oil, but that can be hard to find. I have used 5W30 with no problems. I would stay away from the chain oil myself.
