Participanthow does one determine the proper placement of the britching on the back of the leg and also on top of the hips. i have a 3 strap britching and both my horses have a wear spot on 1 leg. they are used about 2 hours 4 times a week pulling a cart on a dirt road with some small hills……..mink

KeymasterHi Mink, A picture is really helpful for someone to suggest if your britchen is too high or too low. Some rubbing might be normal, especially on the road as it is a light load. It should only effect the hair though. Find the point of the butt were it goes from sloping back to curving forward. This is the farthest aft piece of the horse. Put a finger on that spot. Your britchen should be two inches below that. Britchens are often worn too low. I hope that helps.

At the risk of asking a dumb question. Is your evener and neckyoke the same size? also I have a horse that tends to crowd the tounge when turning . tends to try to lay on it. the other horse side steps like a dancer . I have been working fred ( mr lay on tounge) single between shafts alot lately he doesnt lean so much now. Ginger was taught single untill fred got big enought

ParticipantAre the lengths of the straps from the D-ring to the britchen the same on each side of the animal? How about the length of your pole straps? If not, the britchen could be being pulled around. Just a thought.
