Memberthanks for the answer; is there possibly a picture? how would the hook stay in place when there is no forewards movement? how much load can be pulled mith these hames? the metal part seems to be only attached with 2 bolts and no counter surface …

ParticipantI have a set of harness with that type of tug connector. I have used the hooks from tire chains that connect the cross chain to the side chain to replace the hook into the hame and it has worked fine – seems to be shaped exactly the same. I wouldn’t try heavy logging with them but any steady farm work and moderate pulling seems to be fine in my experience. Jay

Participantthat tire chain hook is kind of what is used except it is bigger. the hook would beabout the size of the trace chain links.these hamesare used for farming and logging. this is what I use all the time. very common over the south.

ParticipantI know those as Lone Star Hames.

ParticipantOr maybe Lone Star specifically denotes steel hames with hame balls on top. Maybe the wooden ones aren’t called Lone Star. In any event, hopefully the image above will help you understand how the traces attach. The missing component is the specialized hook that fits on the trace rachet. It is a good design, in that it provides for an adjustable point of draft.
